ANNOUNCEMENT
The Speaker announced the transmission of a letter from Mr. President on the Federal Produce Inspection Service Bill for consideration.
PETITION
Rep. Luke Onofiok presented a petition by five petitioners against the Independent National Electoral Commission over its failure to conduct an election for the vacant seat of the Oron Federal constituency.
Rep. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe also presented a petition on the need to construct a pedestrian bribe on the Ibadan end of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway due to the danger the absence of the bridge is constituting to the residents of the area.
All petitions were referred to House Committee on Public Petition.
MATTER OF URGENT PUBLIC IMPORTANCE
Rep. Victor Mella Danzaria moved a motion of urgent national importance on the need to suspend the planned sale of Oil mining license 11. The lawmaker said the license is in dispute because it was idle since 1993 after the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) that operated the joint venture was forced out of Ogoniland.
He prayed that the Federal government and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) should be urged to suspend planned asset sale until all disputed issues are resolved while also urging the House to mandate its Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) to immediately investigate the planned auction and report back within four weeks.
The motion was voted on and adopted.
Rep. Babajide Obanikoro also moved a motion on the need to investigate the killing of one of his constituents, Bolanle Raheem by a police officer. He said the gruesome killing of the Lagos lawyer by the police officer and another constituent within the same jurisdiction less than three weeks ago and other citizens across the country is a sad development that must be arrested.
Among other prayers, he prayed for the House to investigate the killing while urging that the consumption of alcohol and other hard substances that may affect the performance and execution of the responsibilities of police personnel while on duty be prohibited.
