The Apex of Nigeria, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has released Public Security Features of the new N200, N500 and N1,000 banknotes.

According the CBN Governor, Emefiele, the apex took the decision to alert the public on the security  features of the new naira notes in orde to mitigate the alleged circulation of fake naira notes in the country. 

Nigeria central bank officially introduced the newly redesigned naira notes on Thursday, 15, December 2022 across the country. Officials say the new ₦200, ₦500,and ₦1000 notes introduced by the apex bank will be very difficult to reproduce by fraudsters. 


The  new notes has been redesigned with enhanced features which include improved security, greater durability and will positively impact Nigerians and support economic growth.

CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele says currency redesign will help increase financial inclusion, control inflation and assist in the fight against corruption.

The old naira notes would still be valid until the 31st January, 2023. At the bank’s monetary policy meeting on Tuesday, Mr Emefiele said the January deadline will not be extended.

In a related development, the CBN Governor has succumbed to public pressure and announced that from the end of January 2023, the weekly withdrawal limit for individuals shall be N500k while corporate shall be N5million.
