As the year 2023 started today, Christians in different denom drew near to God with special services and masses to present themselves, rededicate their lives, and start the journey of the new year.


Some had cross over nights and even held services this morning to ensure no one is left out so as to deepen faithful's roots in Christ. 


There was jubilations and thanksgivings in the Churches as they danced and praised God for bringing them into a brand new year. 


The Archbishop, Province Of the Niger, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim in his sermon during the service, asked Christians to exercise faith and stand firm in God in face of any temptation, political instability, mass unemployment and many other tribulations that will come the way in the new year. 


Most Reverend Ibezim who is also the Bishop of Awka Anglican Diocese harped on need for Christians to pray fervently this season and dedicate all their engagement to God for divine direction. 


In his message, the Bishop, Methodist Church Of Nigeria, Diocese Of Awka, Right Reverend Onyekachi Nwakanma said God assured them of restoration, reconciliation and healing of all sorts in the country thereby giving them hope and deliverance. 


Right Reverend Nwakanma said the mighty hands of God is upon the Nigeria and if the citizens should turn back to him, all the challenges and difficulties encountered in the country will be a thing of the past. 


Bishop Nwakanma advised that the congregation expresses wisdom in next month's general elections in the country to elect leaders with character. 


The Chaplain of Chapel Of The Healing Cross, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Reverend Edozie Chukwuoggor said that as the year begins, Christians should pay no attention to things of the old as Christ has renewed all that concern them.


Reverend Chukwuoggor gave them hope of all round beginning and greater things in Christ. 


At the Divine Mercy Chaplaincy, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, the Chaplain, Reverend Father Justin Ezechukwu in his homily said that the faithfulness of God is so sufficient for his people having made them see this year therefore they should discover their identity and purpose as children of God. 


Reverend Ezechukwu encouraged the parishioners to allow the promises of God to prevail in their life and walk away from all false promises that will impact negatively on their lives.
