On
Thursday, the NGX continued it winning streak across key market indices.
The
NGX ASI gained an impressive +1.21% driven by price upticks in major names -
TRANSCOHOT (+7.4%), MTNN (+5.4%), and ACCESSCORP (+4.8%).
Brining the YTD
return of the index to +45.0% (previously: +43.2%), and the entire equity
market cap reaching another record high of N40.7 trillion.
The
NGX Premium Board Index similarly witnessed a bullish performance in the
trading session, gaining a remarkable +2.25%. Its performance was driven by
MTNN, FBNH (+4.8%), and UBA (+2.97%). The NGX Growth Board Index, however,
declined for the second consecutive day. This index rallied hard and fast in
2023, and it appears that investors are taking profit and redistributing their
earnings. Nonetheless, all major market indices are poised to finish the year
strong.
Sectoral Performance:
The
best performing sector was the NGX Banking Sector gaining +1.41% for the day,
fuelled by strong gains from STERLINGNG (+5.15%), ACCESSCORP (+4.8%), JAIZBANK
(+3.97%), UBA (+2.97%), UNITYBNK (+2.76%), and ZENITHBANK (+0.39%). In second
and third place was the NGX Pension Index and NGX Insurance Index, gaining
+1.21% and +0.61% respectively.
On
the other side of the spectrum, the NGX Oil and Gas Index reversed yesterday's
gains and the NGX Consumer Goods Index continued its dip following losses from
companies like ETERNA (-2.04%), CONOIL (-1.19%), and NESTLE (-1.74%).
