CMS Grammar School Wins 2022 Eloquence Public Speaking Competition

CMS Grammar School, Lagos has emerged winner of the Senior Secondary Schools, Ultimate Public Speaking Face-Off tagged The Eloquence Cup displacing defending champions, Queens College organised by the School of Eloquence in Lagos at the weekend. Speaking on the theme: The Nigerian Youth and 'Japa' Syndrome; Which Way Forward, students from six secondary schools did a public speaking contest on mass emigration that has resulted in many persons of productive age leaving the country. Students from three participating schools - Leopold Favour; CMS Grammar School; Abiola Oyindamola; Dairy Farm Senior Secondary School and Precious Oyinlola of Queens College Lagos clinched first ,second and third prizes with cash rewards of N100,000; N75,000 and N50,000 respectively. A final-year student of Federal University, Dutse, Aminu Muhammad has been released.  He was arrested by the police at his varsity on November 18 over a tweet that appeared to mock Mrs. Aisha Buhari. His arrest elicited mixed reactions with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) apologising to Mrs. Buhari over the tweet. The tweet, which was posted on June 8, reads: “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi.” Muhammad’s tweet , accompanied by a photo of Aisha, loosely translates as “Mama has eaten poor people’s money and is now full”. He had been arraigned before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, where he pleaded not guilty and was remanded at Suleja prison in Niger State. Aminu was charged with Cybercrime, Cybersquatting, Computer Related Forgery, Conspiracy and Criminal Breach of Trust.

UNIBEN Student Produces Lightweight Utility Vehicle

A doctorate student from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Benin, Igbinosa Eghosa, has produced a lightweight utility vehicle. Eghosa of the Department of Production Engineering developed the vehicle under the supervision of Professor Akaehomen Ibhadode, who also led the team to present the vehicle to the University’s Management.  In a statement shared on the Facebook page of UNIBEN on Thursday, the developer opined that the lightweight truck will re-shape and power the growth of the nation’s transport and agriculture industries.  He added that with adequate funding, the vehicle could be produced in large quantity as the design was capable of addressing transportation needs even in local communities. AUST Seeks Partnership With EFCC on Anti-corruption

The African University of Science and Technology, AUST has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes, EFCC to partner with the University on its new project Preventive Anti Corruption Education. The request was made on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, when the President and Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Azikiwe P. Onwualu paid a courtesy visit to the EFCC Corporate Headquarters, Jabi, Abuja. Onwualu stated that the project will support the existing national capacity building initiatives and undertake assessment of capabilities with the view to improving Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, response to the anti-corruption efforts. NSCDC Donates 377 - Capacity Auditorium to NOUN, Promises More Facilities

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Abubakar Audi, has donated a 377-capacity auditorium to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN)'s Special Study Centre for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Sauka, Abuja. The gesture was aimed at minimizing the accommodation problem facing the centre. Audi also added that plans are underway to build another befitting auditorium next year to reduce the challenge of limited office space and examination hall as a result of the growing population of the Study Centre's student. Audi disclosed this while the Acting Centre Director of Special Study Centre, Dr. Paul Ifeanyi as well as some members of his staff paid him (Commandant General) a courtesy visit on Monday, 28th November, 2022 in his office.
