Aregbesola Charges CDCFIB to Create Special Lines for Women Development

In line with the Federal Government's initiatives to eliminate gender - based violence, the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has directed the Management of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Board (CDCFIB) to create special lines for women in all the Services under the Ministry with a view to enable women to play their role in creation.

Aregbesola stated this during a high level advocacy visit by the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Dame Pauline Tallen and her team in the Ministry of Women Affairs on Thursday 8th December 2022 in his office, Abuja. According to him, the "Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Dame Pauline Tallen is an activist per excellence, a committed woman and protector of under - privileged citizens. He maintained that women are a special creation to bring joy, happiness to the society.

He draw the attention of his audiences to the need for them to appreciate President Muhammadu Buhari for his wisdom in appointing Dame Pauline Tallen as  a Minister of Women Affairs, adding that her appointment is a round peg in a round hole. Aregbesola stated that he is keen on women because the religion of Islam criminalises gender violence to women, indicating that when one injures a woman, it is an injury to humanity.

"I am a strong advocate of human rights, "that if women are well recognised  in the society, there will be minimal level of criminalities in the society and Nigeria at large," Aregbesola explained.

Earlier in her address, the Minister of Woman affairs, Mrs. Dame Pauline Taline appreciated the Minister of Interior on his continued support and collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs on  the issue of Gender - Based Violence. She described him as 'champion and true leader of he for she.'

Dame Pauline sought for the Minister's assistance to help in fighting gender - based violence and checking out illegal immigration of women through the nation's borders. She equally appealed for better accommodation for the mothers and babies in the Correctional Custodial Centres across the nation.

In the highlight of the event, the Minister of Interior was decorated with an Award of 'he for she', for his support and contribution towards  the elimiation of Gender - Based Violence.

In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Shuaib Belgore (Dr) said that the Ministry of Interior is very sensitive to the issue of Ministry of Women Affairs,   adding that the Interior Ministry has engaged in series of collaborations with the Women Affairs Ministry and many more on the process.


Other dignitaries present at the event included the Permanent Secretary of Women Affairs, Aliyu Shehu Shinkafi and the National President of Women Affairs, Mrs Lami Adamu Lau among others.
