Lollobrigida, who was a legend of the 1950s and 60s cinema, was dubbed 'the most beautiful woman in the world.'
Italian culture minister, Gennaro Sangiuliano, confirmed her death via his Twitter handle on Monday.
He tweeted, "Farewell to a diva of the silver screen, protagonist of more than half a century of Italian cinema history. Her charm will remain eternal."
According to Marca, she began making films in Italy shortly after World War II, as the country began to promote a stereotypical concept of Mediterranean beauty as buxom and brunette on the big screen.
