...Ratifies Social Protection Policy and Implementation Plan, Domesticates VAPP, Child Rights Acts
The Gombe State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved the sum of Two Billion, Seven Hundred and Forty Nine Million, Seven Hundred and Twenty Thousand, Six Hundred and Twenty Four Naira, Twenty Eight Kobo for the purchase of hospital equipment and furnitures for the newly constructed hospital in Kumo and the upgraded ones in Bajoga and Kaltungo.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the State Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner of Health, Dr Habu Dahiru explained that the hospital equipment will consist of laboratory, theatre and delivery suit materials as well as modern hospital beds and mattresses among others.
Dr. Habu Dahiru said the award of the contract for the supply of the said equipment is in line with the resolve of Governor Inuwa Yahaya's administration to continuously improve on the health sector for effective service delivery.
In the same vain, the commissioner of works Engr. Abubakar Bappah told newsmen that the State Executive Council approval the sum of One Billion, Forty Two Million, One Hundred and Thirty One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty Eight Naira for the emergency repairs of the 'wash away' on Kanawa-Boltongo-Kembu- Kumo road.
Equally awarded for emergency repairs is the Nafada spur road for which the Executive council approved the sum of Two Billion, Two Hundred and Eight Million, Three Hundred and Seven Thousand, Nine Hundred and Eighty /Three Naira, Seven Kobo as contract sum.
The commissioner of Works Engr. Abubakar Bappah explained that the emergency repairs became necessary in order to maintain the free flow of social and economic activities within and around the affected areas.
Speaking on the recent attack in Amtawallan and Pobawure of Billiri Local Government Area by unknown gunmen, the Commissioner of Internal Security and Ethical Orientation Adamu Dishi Kupto said but for timely intervention of security agencies, the situation could have been worse.
He said investigations are ongoing to unravel those behind the attack, saying the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya will do everything necessary to forestall future occurrence.
During the meeting, the council also noted and ratified the Gombe State Social Protection Policy and Implementation Plan as presented by the Hon. Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development.
On the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act VAPP and Child Rights Act, the commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Naomi JJ Awak said the domestication of the laws will serve as a protective shield to the people of the state especially women and children.
She explained that the lack of political will by previous administrations in the state to ratify the VAPP and the CRA had led to the unwarranted denial and molestation of women and children.
The women affairs and social development commissioner revealed that the administration of Governor Inuwa Yahaya paid over four hundred million naira to key into the Nigeria for women project, a programme designed to scale up and enhance the livelihood of women in the state.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mr Meshack Audu Lauco, who coordinated the briefing, explained that all approvals and ramifications were dispassionately considered in the interest of the people of the state.
