King Charles Christmas Day Message Breaks TV Viewing Records
An average of 8.1 million, 1.58 million, and 900,000 viewers watched the broadcast on BBC One, ITV, and BBC Two respectively.

The Christmas Day broadcast of the monarch of the United Kingdom, King Charles III, has become the most-watched television broadcast on Christmas Day.


The 2022 Christmas Day broadcast by the King has become the most popular broadcast in the two decades that official TV ratings records monitoring audience have been kept.


King Charles addressed the nation from St George’s chapel at Windsor Castle, where the committal service of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was held three months ago and where she delivered a Christmas message in 1999.


According to the Guardian UK, Christmas Day viewing was once again dominated by the BBC, with the King’s Christmas Broadcast attracting an average of 8.1 million viewers followed by Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special attracting an average of 5.4 million viewers amongst other shows.


The corporation said BBC One, the most popular channel in the UK, attracted more viewers on Christmas Day than the number of viewers who chose to watch a subscription video-on-demand service
